Four-M Model for More Peace
I’m always looking for ways to preserve peace. Coming into a space of mind-body-spirit alignment feels like floating on air to me. When I experience those moments, I feel safe, calm, powerful and divinely guided. While I find it less of a major feat to move into that space, when I make it in, the blissful time is not as lengthy as I wish. Sometimes, it feels like the second I walk away from an inspiring thought, an amazing epiphany or an enlightening experience, the sensation, lesson and zen state of being dissipates like smoke.
When I started paying more attention to what gives me an extended stay in that calm space, I found four primary practices.
Meditation – spending some sort of time in quiet contemplation helps me to focus, find clarity and grounding.
Mantras – affirming positive thoughts, scriptures or spiritual truths remind me that all is well and will continue be and provide me encouragement and perspective.
Mindfulness – setting intentions and staying focused on one thing at a time, being present helps me be productive and proficient. The quality of my work, interactions and relationships is improved.
Movement – Yoga, walking, dancing, running…any exercise builds my endurance, reduces stress and helps me get out of my head and improves my health.
When I maintain these practices, I feel great (and behave beautifully). When I don’t, well, let’s just say, it’s not so wonderful on any front. What helps you maintain a peaceful presence?
